[Saba Sports News] The FIA is devising technical regulations for Formula 1 (F1) in 2026, with weight reduction emerging as a key focus. Currently set at 798kg, the FIA plans to decrease the car weight by 40-50kg starting in 2026. Noteworthy adjustments include reducing the car width from 2 meters to 1.9 meters, shortening the maximum wheelbase from 3.6 meters to 3.4 meters, and lowering overall downforce, necessitating lighter componentry such as suspension systems. Additionally, the FIA intends to reduce the weight of the halo, a safety feature introduced in 2018 to protect drivers’ heads, from 7kg to approximately 6kg. Originally weighing around 14-15kg, advancements in material technology have facilitated the reduction in halo weight over the years, underscoring F1’s commitment to enhancing safety without compromising performance.
