[Saba Sports News] Recently, eight luxury watches owned by F1 icon Michael Schumacher were auctioned in Geneva, collectively fetching nearly four million Swiss francs. Organized by Schumacher’s family, the auction coincided with the 30th anniversary of his first Formula One Drivers’ Championship win in 1994. The highest-priced watch in the collection, bestowed upon Schumacher by Jean Todt, former CEO of the Ferrari F1 team as a Christmas gift in 2004, sold for 1.2 million francs. Including the commission, the total transaction amounted to 1.5 million francs, aligning with the pre-auction estimate of 1 million to 2 million francs. Notably, FP Journe’s customized platinum watch “Vagabondage 1”, crafted from 18K white gold with a red dial adorned with the Ferrari logo, Schumacher’s racing helmet, and the number “7” to commemorate his seven world championships, commanded considerable attention. Among the collection was also an Audemars Piguet watch featuring the Ferrari Prancing Horse logo, which sold for 330,000 francs, surpassing the anticipated highest price of 250,000 francs. However, Remi Guillemin, head of the European and American watch department at Christie’s, declined to disclose the identities of the buyers. Schumacher, who retired from F1 in 2012, remains tied with British driver Lewis Hamilton for the record of seven F1 world championships. In December of the following year, Schumacher suffered a near-fatal brain injury in a skiing accident in the French Alpine resort of Meribel. Since his discharge from the hospital in September 2014, Schumacher has been under private care at his family’s home in Switzerland, yet has shown no signs of awakening.
