[Saba Sports News] Malaysia’s 23-year-old rising badminton star, Ng Tze Yong, has applied for ranking protection after facing setbacks due to health issues. Previously recovering from intervertebral disc problems, Ng encountered a rare illness in mid-April, necessitating another surgical procedure. Rexy Mainaky, the coaching director of the Malaysian Badminton Association, stated that Ng will require 2 to 3 months of rest to recuperate. Consequently, the Malaysian Badminton Association has requested world ranking protection from the Badminton World Federation (BWF) as Ng will miss several BWF events. This protection, mandated by BWF regulations, spans from a minimum of 3 months to a maximum of 1 year. If his recovery progresses as anticipated, Ng aims to return to competition as early as the 2024 Super 300 Chinese Taipei Badminton Open in September. Despite participating in only two events in the 2024 season, including the Malaysian Super 1000 in January and the Asian Badminton Team Championship in February, Ng failed to qualify for the badminton competition at the Paris Olympics in July due to performance and entry limitations.
