[Saba Sports News] The 2024 Thomas and Uber Cup finals have concluded. Following the competition, the Badminton World Federation held a ceremony to express gratitude. Zhang Jun, Chairman of the Chinese Badminton Association, presented commemorative medals to the BWF Chief Referee Girish Natu and others. Members of the medical support team were also recognized and honored on stage. The event attracted athletes from 32 countries and regions, with an average daily audience of over 10,000. More than 2,000 staff members were involved in organizing and facilitating the event, presenting significant challenges for medical support. To ensure a successful event, the Health Bureau of Chengdu High-tech Zone mobilized three tertiary-level hospitals to create a team of medical experts for the Thomas and Uber Cup, providing on-site medical support, VIP protection, and designated hospital transfers. During the competition, the medical team treated over 220 patients. When an Indian athlete sprained his ankle, the medical team promptly enacted an emergency response plan. The team administered ice spray, ice compress, compression, immobilization, and elevation of the affected limb before transferring the athlete to a designated hospital for further treatment. The entire process, from courtside assessment to hospital arrival, took just 15 minutes. The Badminton World Federation praised the medical support team for its professionalism, efficiency, and dedication, noting that their efforts contributed significantly to the smooth running of the Thomas and Uber Cup.
