[Saba Sports News] During the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 match between Afghanistan and England in Delhi, star player Rahmanullah Gurbaz violated ICC Code of Conduct Article 2.2, involving the “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.” He slammed his bat in frustration after being dismissed in the 19th over. This led to an official reprimand and one demerit point added to Gurbaz’s record.
ICC guidelines stipulate that a Level 1 breach results in a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, with potential fines of up to 50% of the player’s match fee and one or two demerit points. Gurbaz now has one demerit point, marking his first offence in a 24-month period.
Accumulating four or more demerit points within 24 months can result in suspension, highlighting the significance of adhering to sportsmanship and self-control on the cricket field.
Afghanistan, coming off a win against defending champions, is set to face New Zealand in the ODI World Cup 2023’s 16th match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. They aim to continue their strong performance in the tournament.
