[Saba Sports News] India and Bangladesh faced off in Match 17 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on October 19 at Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. Bangladesh made a strong start, reaching 93/0 for the first wicket, but later faltered and were at 179/5 after 37.2 overs.
India’s exceptional fielding and precise bowling helped them make a comeback, taking quick wickets during the middle overs. Ravindra Jadeja, in particular, shone as he claimed two wickets in his ten-over spell and took a stunning catch at point. In the 43rd over, Jadeja dived to his right to dismiss the well-set Mushfiqur Rahim (38 off 46). After the catch, Jadeja gestured to India’s fielding coach, T Dilip, to award him the ‘best fielder’ medal after the match. Umpire Marais Erasmus also acknowledged this request.
It’s worth noting that the Indian fielding coach has been awarding the ‘best fielder’ medal after each World Cup match. Virat Kohli, Shardul Thakur, and KL Rahul received it in the first three matches. In this game, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja were strong contenders for the award.
Jadeja also excelled with the ball, ending with figures of 2/38 after ten overs. He dismissed Bangladesh’s stand-in captain Najmul Hossain Shanto in the 20th over and later removed the well-set Litton Das (66 off 82) in the 28th over, dealing a significant blow to Bangladesh.
Bangladesh concluded their innings at 256/8 in their allotted 50 overs, with Jasprit Bumrah (2/41) and Mohammed Siraj (2/60) also taking two wickets each for India.
