[Saba Sports News] The recent video conference meeting
of IFAB’s technical and football advisory groups focused on various topics,
including measures to improve player conduct and ensure greater respect for
match officials. One specific area of discussion revolved around finding ways
to prevent on-field situations from escalating further and implementing
stricter penalties for players and coaches who display disrespect. The meeting
also explored the possibility of allowing only team captains to communicate
with referees in certain instances, aiming to better manage on-field disputes,
which often lead to wasted game time. Suggestions were made to help referees
defuse tensions between players during confrontations on the pitch. The expert
group will continue to review and propose specific measures for effective
implementation before the next IFAB annual meeting scheduled for March 2, 2024.
