[Saba Sports News] Chris Paul is Set to Assume an Unfamiliar Role for the Golden State Warriors on Sunday Evening. Paul will be coming off the bench in their game against the Houston Rockets as Draymond Green makes his season debut and reclaims his starting position. Anthony Slater from The Athletic points out that this game will mark the first time in Paul’s 19-year career that he won’t be starting.
Up until this Sunday, Paul had played in 1,365 career games, starting each and every one of them. This was an unmatched achievement in the NBA, with no other player having started 100% of their career games. Now, Milwaukee Bucks star Damian Lillard will take the top spot in this category.
During the offseason, it appeared that the Warriors’ plan was for Paul to be a starter. The 38-year-old even expressed some frustration over the summer when a reporter asked about the possibility of him being a backup.
Paul did start in the Warriors’ first two games, contributing 10 points, 12 assists, and 2 rebounds in their season-opening win against the Sacramento Kings on Friday night, followed by 14 points, 9 assists, and 6 rebounds in a loss to the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night. His field goal percentage currently stands at 33.3%
