[Saba Sports News] Rohit Sharma held a press conference ahead of the India vs. Sri Lanka ODI World Cup match. Towards the end of the press conference, he was asked about the newly unveiled Sachin Tendulkar statue at Wankhede Stadium on November 1st.
In his usual style, Rohit responded, “Yes, we saw it when we came to practice, but couldn’t see it up close. Our practice was also delayed by the media manager (laughs). But yeah, we will get to see it closely later. I haven’t yet seen what shot is that. What more can I say, they have made a statue of a straight lofted shot. It’s nice, I hope you guys enjoyed it, we saw the statue, it’s fantastic.”
High-flying India will take on struggling Sri Lanka on November 2nd at Wankhede Stadium. The Indian team is aiming for their seventh win in the tournament, having overcome challenges from six teams so far. Led by Rohit Sharma, India has been dominant in the competition, boasting a healthy net run rate of +1.405 and showing resilience even in the absence of Hardik Pandya.
Mohammed Shami’s impressive performance with 9 wickets in two matches exemplifies India’s squad depth. In contrast, Sri Lanka has struggled with under-par performances, sitting in seventh place on the points table with just two wins in six matches and slim chances of reaching the semi-finals.
