[Saba Sports News] Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam, who stepped down from the leadership post after the ODI World Cup 2023, extended heartfelt greetings to the victorious Australian side. The newly appointed Pakistan T20I skipper, Shaheen Shah Afridi, also congratulated the Australia for their remarkable performance in the World Cup final against India at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Australia secured a decisive victory over India, winning the one-sided match by six wickets. They chased down the target of 241 runs in 43 overs, thanks to outstanding contributions from opener Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne. Travis Head, named Player of the Match, played a stellar innings, smashing 137 runs in 120 balls with the help of 15 fours and four sixes. Labuschagne provided valuable support, scoring unbeaten 58 runs off 110 deliveries.
Taking to Instagram, Pakistan batter Babar praised Australia, writing, “Congratulations Australia. What a commanding performance in the final.”
His compatriot Shaheen lauded the Rohit Sharma-led side for their efforts throughout the tournament after congratulating Australia.
Shaheen wrote on ‘X’, “Many congrats to @CricketAus on winning the World Cup title. Surely the better team on the day. Hard luck India but the team played fantastically well throughout the tournament.”
Notably, this victory marked Australia’s sixth ODI World Cup title win, adding to their previous triumphs in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2015.
