[Saba Sports News] Former Australia wicketkeeper-batter Brad Haddin advised all-rounder Cameron Green to manage his workload by giving Indian Premier League (IPL) a miss if he wants to thrive further in Test cricket.
Green is a regular in the Australia squad for all formats and has been playing continuous cricket lately. Mumbai Indians bought him for INR 17.50 crore in the IPL 2023 auction and traded him to Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the next season.
With Green forming a big chunk of the core of Australia’s Test line-up, Haddin believes that he should be skipping the IPL whenever he feels the pressure of humongous workload. Haddin cited the examples of Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, who prioritised Test cricket over IPL at times.
“If you look at the three fast bowlers (Cummins, Hazlewood, Starc) they have had periods where they have sat out of IPL and prioritized Test cricket and that’s something at times Cameron Green might have to do depending on his workload. I know IPL is a great way to keep learning, but if the workload gets too big, he will have to make some sacrifices to keep peaking in Test cricket,” Haddin said as quoted to Fox Cricket.
Haddin also talked about Green’s schedule in the last six to seven months, emphasising how tough it must have been for the 24-year-old to get through that.
“If you look at his short career till date, I don’t think he will get as hard a period as he has got over the last 6-7 months. I think he spent the best part of six months away from home. He is still only a young man finding his feet at international level. He will have a good opportunity now to sit back and reflect on that,” Haddin added.
