In T20I cricket, Ravi Bishnoi has emerged as the top
bowler following his impressive performance as Player of the Series against
Australia. In that series, he had taken nine wickets at an average of 18.22 in
five games. That concluded the 23-year-old legspinner’s explosive ascension in
Twenty20 International cricket. Since making his debut in February 2022, he has
amassed 34 wickets at a strike rate of 14.5 and an economy of just over 7.
In addition to pushing Wanindu Hasaranga, Adil Rashid,
and Maheesh Theekshana down a spot to round out the all-spin top five, Bishnoi
unseats Rashid Khan of Afghanistan at the top. The rankings did not undergo any
other notable alterations.
India handed Bishnoi a good amount of powerplay
bowling throughout the series against Australia, and it paid off in terms of
managing runs and taking wickets. As they get ready for the T20 World Cup in
the West Indies, where spinners can be very useful, and the USA in June of next
year, they will be hoping that Bishnoi, who bowls more googlies than legbreaks,
can maintain his current form. There isn’t much time for experimenting left
until the main event—just six Twenty20 international matches—but India will be
buoyed by their 4-1 victory over Australia.
