[Saba Sports News] According to the latest media
reports, former renowned Chinese badminton player Yu Xiaoyu has tragically
passed away at the age of 31 due to drowning. The news of his untimely death
has sparked widespread discussions in the media. Yu Xiaoyu was currently
serving as the coach of the Anhui Provincial Badminton Team in China, and his
passing leaves a vacancy that the Badminton Federation now needs to fill.
During his career as a player, Yu Xiaoyu achieved notable success. He notably
won the runner-up position in mixed doubles at the New Zealand Badminton Golden
Grand Prix in 2015 and secured the men’s team championship at the 2016 National
Games. After retiring from professional play, he transitioned into coaching. It
is worth mentioning that badminton runs in his family, with his father
introducing them to the sport at an early age. His older sister and younger
sister are also badminton players, and his cousin, Yu Xiaohan, has reached the
top 10 in women’s doubles on the world stage. The sudden loss of Yu Xiaoyu is
undoubtedly a significant blow to Chinese badminton.
