Sports News] Following Burnley’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea in the 30th round of the
Premier League, Burnley coach Vincent Kompany was shown a red card by the
referee in the 40th minute due to his dissatisfaction with a penalty decision.
In a post-match interview, Kompany openly discussed his concerns about the
quality of referees in the league. He stated that this season, he has expressed
to the authorities that the referees are not up to the required standard.
Kompany emphasized that he expressed his opinions in a constructive manner,
understanding the difficult circumstances that referees face and the increased
scrutiny they are under. He acknowledged that the introduction of VAR, more opinions,
and the presence of additional officials have not made the referee’s job any
easier. Kompany emphasized the need for consistency in communication between
players and referees, highlighting the importance of reflection and raising the
standards of the game. He made it clear that his remarks were not linked to
Burnley’s league position but aimed at improving the overall quality of
refereeing. Despite the potential for fines or disciplinary action, Kompany
expressed that he was not afraid to speak out about the issue. He hopes that
future games will see improvements in refereeing standards.
