[Saba Sports News] Delhi Capitals (DC) slumped to a second consecutive Women’s Premier League (WPL) final defeat after a stunning batting collapse against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Despite leading the tournament and finishing at the top of the points table, the Capitals choked under pressure, falling all out for a meager 113 runs.
RCB completed the run-chase in the final over, winning their first-ever title.
A visibly emotional Meg Lanning, Delhi Capitals captain, fighting back tears in the dugout as RCB celebrated their maiden WPL title win, displayed immense grace in defeat. While disappointment was evident, Lanning generously acknowledged RCB’s dominance.
“Obviously disappointing not to get it
done tonight. Finals are about playing well on the day.
Congratulations to RCB – you outplayed us tonight,” Lanning said as quoted.
“It
all happened relatively quickly as it tends to do. As we’ve seen in
this tournament, crazy things happen. Full credit to RCB, they fought
back really nicely and deserved the win,” she added.
Royal Challengers Bangalore, on the other hand, were jubilant. Their bowling attack had been phenomenal throughout the innings, choking the DC batters and restricting them to a below-par score. RCB batters displayed composure and clinical finishing, ensuring they reached the target comfortably and secured their maiden WPL title in convincing fashion.
