[Saba Sports News] In the recently concluded All
England Open women’s singles event, Spanish badminton legend Carolina Marin
emerged victorious against Japanese star Yamaguchi Akane. This marked her first
All England Open win in nine years. Marin has been plagued by injuries in
recent years, resulting in her limited participation in badminton matches.
Since her comeback in 2022, she has struggled with intermittent injuries. Her
most notable achievement thus far was winning the 2023 Orleans Masters
championship, a Super 300 event. Additionally, she secured several high-level
accolades, including a second-place finish in some high level competitions.
Following her championship win, Marin was overwhelmed with emotion, dropping to
her knees and shedding tears of joy. She then rushed towards the audience and
embraced her mother, who had been supporting her throughout. This victory is
particularly significant for Marin as it marks her first major championship win
since returning from knee surgery two years ago. Marin, the gold medalist in
women’s singles at the 2016 Rio Olympics and a three-time World Championships
women’s singles champion, holds the record for the most women’s singles titles
in the World Championships. However, in recent years, she has faced significant
knee injuries that required surgical intervention, causing her to miss the 2020
Tokyo Olympics.
