[Saba Sports News] Yusuf Pathan is embarking on a new chapter as he’s announced as one of the Trinamool Congress’ candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, set to contest from Berhampur, a constituency traditionally represented by Congress’s Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. The declaration came during a significant rally at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground on March 10. Although the Congress hasn’t yet confirmed its Berhampur candidate, speculation suggests Chowdhury might seek re-election.
Expressing his gratitude on social media, Yusuf acknowledged the trust placed in him by Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, and expressed his commitment to advocating for the underprivileged. His connection to West Bengal is deep-rooted, thanks to his impactful stint with the Kolkata Knight Riders, where he was instrumental in securing two IPL titles.
“I’m eternally grateful to Smt. @mamataofficial for welcoming me into the TMC family and trusting me with the responsibility to become people’s voice in the Parliament. As representatives of the people, it is our duty to uplift the poor and deprived, and that is what I hope to achieve.”
Yusuf’s cricketing credentials include playing crucial roles for India in T20Is and ODIs, delivering memorable performances with both bat and ball. His career statistics reflect his all-round capabilities, contributing significantly in both formats.
Despite retiring from professional cricket in 2021, he continues to entertain cricket enthusiasts in various legends leagues, showcasing his enduring talent and flair. Now, as he transitions into politics, Yusuf aims to leverage his popularity and leadership skills to make a meaningful impact on society, focusing on uplifting the lives of the poor and deprived in his potential parliamentary constituency.
