[Saba Sports News] In a major development, it has been confirmed that England opener Jason Roy has pulled out of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and will be replaced by his national teammate Phil Salt in the Kolkata Knight Riders squad.
As revealed on Sunday, Roy opted out of the upcoming IPL season due to personal reasons. This promoted KKR to sign Salt, who played for Delhi Capitals last year.
Salt had gone unsold in the IPL 2024 auction, however, recently smashed two back-to-back T20I hundreds versus the West Indies, leading to his inclusion in KKR at a base price of INR 1.5 crore.
In IPL 2023, he had scored 218 runs, including two fifties, in nine matches.
The move to rope in Salt as Roy’s replacement comes with a benefit as KKR have now added an additional overseas wicket-keeper alongside Rahmatullah Gurbaz. As the franchise does not have enough quality domestic options, Salt’s inclusion in the line-up gives them some strength on this front.
