He was named Player of the Series in Asia Cup 2023, securing nine wickets in four innings with an average of 11.44 and an economy of 3.61. This resurgence in his career led to his inclusion in the ODI World Cup 2023.
Kuldeep is India’s second-highest wicket-taker since 2022, claiming 43 wickets in 23 innings at an average of 18.93 and an economy of 4.70. He experienced a significant turnaround after a challenging period from 2020-2021. Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar praised Kuldeep, calling him a trump card for the World Cup.
India’s World Cup campaign begins on October 8 against Australia. Kuldeep has been rested for the first two ODIs against Australia and will return to action on September 27. Following the Australia series, India will head straight into the World Cup, starting on October 5, with their opening match against Australia on October 8 in Chennai.
