[Saba Sports News] India batter Shreyas Iyer rose back to form, scoring a blistering hundred in the second ODI of the ongoing series versus Australia.
Batting at number three, Iyer raced off to a scintillating start as he smashed exquisite boundaries early on in his innings. He never looked back from there and went on to blast his third ODI ton.
As there was no Virat Kohli for the first two fixtures, Iyer was given the opportunity to bat one down. Speaking on his batting position, the 28-year-old stated he is open to playing any role as per the need of the team.
“Management has told me that I would be batting at this particular number. I am flexible at whatever number I get to bat, whatever the team requires at that point of time. If I have to go lower down the order or up the order, I’m fine with it,” Iyer said.
Doubts loomed over Iyer’s place in the XI as more than his performance, it was Ishan Kishan’s consistency that put pressure on him with regards to his position in the playing XI. Iyer remarked on this, mentioning that he cannot complain about the increasing competition.
“There is competition and that’s the best part of being in the team. When you represent India, you know there will be challenges. As a professional, I can’t complain about that. And all I can say is that I would embrace the opportunity that the future presents and see to it that I leave no stone unturned,” he added.
India will next face Australia in a dead-rubber on September 27 at Rajkot before beginning their World Cup journey.
