[Saba Sports News] India are ranked as the number one team across all formats. However, their skipper Rohit Sharma does not this to be a distraction for the team, whose aim right now is to lift the ODI World Cup 2023 trophy.
Speaking to the media on the eve of the third and final ODI of the series against Australia, Rohit stated that although being numero uno in the rankings is a positive, India still have bigger goals to achieve.
The World Cup is nearing and as Rohit stated, the Indian players are not paying any attention at all to where they are in the rankings.
“It’s a positive to be the No.1 going into the World Cup but it doesn’t matter at the end of the day. We have to stay at present and play some good cricket,” Rohit Sharma said.
“Don’t think anyone is worried about rankings at this point. We have bigger things to worry about,” he added.
India are 2-0 up in the ongoing series. While they would want to inflict a whitewash, Rohit asserted that it is not something that comes in his mind as a captain.
“As a skipper, I don’t think about stuff like whitewash. In the first two games, while I didn’t play, I watched closely. We did pretty much everything right in these couple of games.
“We want to play good cricket rather than thinking about whitewash. When you play well, good things happen,” the 36-year-old mentioned
India will play an ODI versus Australia on Wednesday in Rajkot. This will be followed by the World Cup, which begins on October 5.
