After committing his third level one code of conduct
violation in the past 18 months during Monday’s Marsh Cup match against
Victoria, wicketkeeper Matthew Wade of Tasmania was given a suspension. This
violation resulted in an automatic two-game suspension.
When Wade faced a dot ball during his 25-ball innings
in the three-wicket loss at Junction Oval in Melbourne, he struck the pitch
firmly with his bat out of annoyance. It was determined that this behaviour
violated Article 2.5 of the Cricket Australia code, which prohibits using
improper cricket gear, apparel, or fixtures and fittings during a game.
He accepted the accusation and was later found guilty.
Wade has committed three level one violations in the past 18 months, and even
though they have all been very minor, three violations in that period
automatically result in a two-game suspension.
Wade will now be absent from Tasmania’s upcoming Marsh
Cup matches against New South Wales on September 27 in Melbourne and South
Australia on October 8 in Adelaide. But starting on October 3, he can
participate in Tasmania’s first Sheffield Shield match against South Australia
in Adelaide.
After the ODI World Cup, Australia will play India in
a five-match T20I series, and Wade is still a candidate to make the team.
