[Saba Sports News] India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who didn’t get included in the 15-member squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, opened up for the first time after being snubbed by the selectors and the team management.
Chahal didn’t get picked for the T20 World Cup in 2021, which happened in Dubai, despite showing good performance throughout the year. However, he received a call-up for the 2022 T20 World Cup but didn’t get a single match to play in the entire tournament.
Reflecting on the same, Chahal expressed regarding the snub from the 2023 World Cup. He mentioned that moving on is the only way forward in situations like these because not everyone can fit into the 15 slots in the World Cup team.
“I understand that only fifteen players can be a part, because it’s a World Cup, where you can’t take 17 or 18. I do feel a little bad, but my motto in life is to move on. I’m used to it now… it’s been three World Cups (laughs),” Chahal was quoted as saying by Wisden.
Chahal also didn’t get the opportunity in the Asia Cup 2023 and, moreover, he is not even in tthe he squad for ongoing Asian Games, which ultimately led him to take part in County Cricket for Kent. Chahal is looking forward to making his red-ball debut for India.
“That’s why I came here (at Kent) to play because I want to play cricket somewhere, somehow. I’m getting a chance here with a red ball, and I seriously want to play red ball for India. So it was a good experience for me. I spoke to the coaches too, and they’re happy I’m playing somewhere, because you can practice as much in the nets, but match is match. I’m getting to play at a very good level here – first division, County – learning a lot here,” he added.
