[Saba Sports News] The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a medical update on their star opening batter Shubman Gill’s health on Monday, who missed the opening match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 versus Australia in Chennai.
Shubman, who is having a dream year, especially in white-ball cricket, contracted dengue, which prevented him from recovering in time and led to his exclusion of the from the playing eleven for the match against Australia on Sunday.
While It was already being speculated that Shubman might also miss India’s second game as well, scheduled against Afghanistan on October 11 in the capital city, Delhi, the BCCI has now confirmed that he will not be available for the clash and would have to wait to make his ODI World Cup debut.
BCCI issued a statement on social media regarding Shubman’s availability for the upcoming fixture, revealing that the 24-year-old will stay back in Chennai under the supervision of health experts.
“Team India batter Shubman Gill will not be traveling with the team to Delhi on 9th October 2023. The opening batter who missed the team’s first fixture in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 against Australia in Chennai is set to miss the team’s next fixture against Afghanistan in Delhi on the 11th of October. He will stay back in Chennai and will be under the supervision of the medical team,” the BCCI statement read.
