[Saba Sports News] In the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, Australia faced off against South Africa in a match where Australia, chasing 312, got off to a disastrous start, losing half their side for just 65 runs. Marcus Stoinis came in at number seven but was dismissed cheaply. Stoinis faced Kagiso Rabada’s second ball of the 18th over, straying down the leg.
Although the on-field umpire initially remained unmoved, Rabada’s insistence led to a successful appeal through DRS, confirming a nick as the ball passed the glove. Stoinis had to depart the crease.
Upon seeing the ‘Out’ verdict on the big screen, Stoinis appeared in disbelief but had to accept the umpire’s decision. He managed to score five runs off four balls during his brief stay. Currently, Australia is struggling, with Marnus Labuschagne and Mitchell Starc trying to build a partnership to keep their hopes alive.
In the earlier part of the match, South African batsmen performed well, with Quinton de Kock scoring a brilliant century (109 off 106 balls) before getting out while attempting a reverse sweep off Glenn Maxwell. Aiden Markram also contributed with 56 runs off 46 balls.
During Australia’s chase, Lungi Ngidi and Marco Jansen claimed wickets of the openers Mitchell Marsh and David Warner, while Rabada dismissed Steven Smith and Josh Inglis. Maxwell was caught and bowled by left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj for the fifth wicket.
