[Saba Sports News] India and England faced off in the 29th match of the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday, October 29. England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and chose to bat first. India, batting first for the first time in the competition, had a disappointing performance, scoring only 229 runs.
Remarkably, the match saw an unwelcome record with Virat Kohli, Joe Root, and Ben Stokes all getting dismissed for ducks in the same ODI World Cup game, a first-time occurrence.
Kohli, batting at number three, was out in the seventh over, attempting to clear the mid-off fielder against David Willey but was caught by Stokes, departing with a duck. This was Kohli’s first duck in an ODI World Cup match.
Facing a target of 230, England got off to a poor start. Jasprit Bumrah removed Root in the fifth over with a delivery that trapped him in front, resulting in a golden duck. Stokes, on the other hand, was dismissed by Mohammed Shami, who angled the ball in, deceiving Stokes, and broke the stumps, sending him out with a ten-ball duck.
