[Saba Sports News] British media reports indicate that
the EFL Cup semi-finals next season will adopt a single-leg format to address
the problem of crowded schedules faced by Premier League clubs. This decision
comes after years of pressure from the Premier League on the English Football
League (EFL) to transition to a one-leg format. In the past, the EFL Cup
semi-finals have been played over two legs due to financial considerations.
However, it is understood that the EFL has included a clause in their £935
million TV deal with Sky Sports, which will commence next season, allowing them
to eliminate the two-leg semi-final format without suffering financial
penalties. Although specific details have yet to be confirmed, the change to a
single-leg format could potentially involve the use of neutral venues for the
Carabao Cup semi-finals for the first time.
