[Saba Sports News] Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the side’s upcoming World Cup clash, scheduled versus England on November 4 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
At a time when Australia are rollicking and are riding on winning chariot, an injury concern has hit them in the form of Maxwell, who suffered in a concussion on a golf course.
In a freak accident, Maxwell fell off the golf cart while being ferried away to the team bus. As there were no enough golf carts available on the spot, Maxwell and some other individuals decide to take a small ride on the back of the cart. He could not maintain a solid grip and ultimately fell off.
Australia head coach revealed the details of the incident that happened on Monday, October 30.
“In transporting back from the clubhouse to the team bus, where Glenn
Maxwell come off the back of a cart, and has suffered a small
concussion. So, he will go into concussion protocols for the next period
of time, and will unfortunately miss the England game,” McDonald said as quoted by Cricbuzz.
As Maxwell is only out of the England game, Australia are not taking his replacement.
“There’ll be no replacement as such. So he’ll go into like, it’s six to
eight days concussion protocol. So as I said, that takes into account
the England game who will be unavailable for that game. And then clearly
within the squad, we’ve got some players who become available in Marcus
Stoinis and Cameron Green is available as well. So, we haven’t made
that decision as yet,” he added.
As Maxwell is not available for the fixture against England, Australia would have to reshuffle their combination a bit. While Marnus Labuschagne will retain his spot in the XI, Marcus Stoinis could replace Maxwell.
“I think Marn’s is likely to be in the room. I
think that as it sits in the moment. There’ll be a small reshuffle,
clearly around the back end of our batting, with Glenn going out. And no
doubt that then compromises a little bit of our bowling and the way
that Glenn’s performed with the ball.
“There’s
no doubt that it leaves us a fraction exposed at the back end in terms
of how Glenn’s been performing there (with the bat). But also Marcus
Stoinis does become available for this game, all things going on today
at training, we feel as though that he’ll be ticked off and given the
green light to be able to come in and that so that gives us some power
at the back end,” McDonald stated.
Australia have important matches coming up. They have three games left in the league stage and they need to win at least two of these if they want to keep their qualification chances for the semis in their own hands.
