[Saba Sports News] Australia batter Steve Smith was seen in some discomfort and appeared dizzy during Monday’s team practice session at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, ahead of the World Cup 2023 match against Afghanistan, scheduled on November 7.
During the pre-match press conference, Smith revealed that he is experiencing vertigo symptoms but expressed hope to be included in the playing XI against Afghanistan.
“I’ve had a bit of vertigo stuff the last day or so, so it’s just been a bit annoying. So, hopefully, I can get through training today and be all good. But, yeah, it’s not a nice place to be,” Smith said as quoted.
Vertigo is a specific type of dizziness characterized by a false sensation of spinning or movement, often described as a feeling of you or your surroundings rotating or swaying, even though there is no actual movement.
“Occasionally, I’ve had a few episodes, so I can tell you it’s not the funnest space to be in, but yeah, I’ll go out and have a hit and hopefully be okay and we’ll see how we go,” he added.
The Sydney-born further gave an update on his teammate, Mitchell Marsh, who returned to Australia in the middle of the tournament after losing his grandfather. Smith told the reporters that Marsh has joined back the side.
“Marsh’s here, he’s here at training today and Max is here as well so yeah, I assume they’re training and whether they’re available tomorrow I have no idea,” Smith informed.
A win for the Men in Yellow will secure their place in the semi-finals of the ongoing tournament. After playing Afghanistan, they would still have a league fixture to feature in versus Bangladesh on November 11 in Pune.
